The last time I went to London was during Easter hols and was busy entertaining my parents. Did not spend much time with friends so now its catching up time. Went there and had a great time in Notting Hill carnival, watched Grease and BBQ after demanding satay from Anin. Tasty and what a good way to feed the tummy before the fasting month...Selamat Berpuasa.

We took a flight from Bergen-Oslo and then from Oslo-Stockholm. Saving a lot on accomodation as we're staying with my friend-Mimi Linda. We managed to explore the gorgeous Gamla Stan and taking a boat trip out of Stockholm to enjoy the postcard-perfect city panoramas from the water. This country is famous of Vikings like all the other Nordic countries, Volvos, blondes, ABBA and of course IKEA. A day trip to Stockholm archipelago was good cos I have never seen petrol station in the waters before..its really kewl!!

This is the part which i love most, travelling to the other part of a country other than the capital city and experience the real taste of Norway. Most famous for its fjords, we took the Norway in nutshell trip which covers from Bergen-Myrdal-Voss-Flam-Gudvangen-Bergen. The view is spectacular covering all the lakes and mountains. Slept in Bergen, the most beautiful city in Norway and visited its most famous fish market. But let me warn you in advance, this trip will costs you a fortune (cant believe its even more expensive than my Swiss trip).

Oslo, Norway- the first trip to Scandinavian countries
This is the capital of Norway which offers a rare combination of diverse web of urbanity. This is the most expensive country I have been so far but hey worth having a hole in pocket..=) The trip this time will cover Oslo, Bergen, a trip to the fjords and the flying off to Stockholm for a taste of Sweden. The Vigeland park is really unique and worth going. The scupltures of human forms are fantastic. We also went to the castle and the changing of the guards, Nobel museum and of course the Viking ship museums showcasing all the 3 viking ships found from Tune, Gokstad and Oseberg. Check it out!!

Transylvania, Romania- the hunt for Dracula
This is the whole reason for the trip. To visit Transylvania which is made famous by Dracula. The 14th century castles at Rasnov and Bran appeared to be ready made for Dracula movie. We went to Sinaia palace, Bran castle and lastly the monastery in Rasnov. The castles are quite apart but we managed to visit all of them by joining the visit organised by Kismet Dao (the hostel we stayed in Brasov). Vlad Tepes (Dracula) used Bran castle as headquarters of his incursions into Transylvania. The Bran castle was built in 1212 (ages ago) and it is now filled with Queen Marie's belongings. If any of you going to Romania, this is a must visit place!!

Bucharest, Romania- the rise from Communism into capitalism
From Krakow to Romania!! Took a train from Krakow to Wien then fly from Wien to Bucharest (Buchuresti) the capital city of Romania. A different place to travel as Romania used to be a communist country. Had their first election in 1990 and now its the wild east of Eastern Europe. Bucharest eclectic architecture is a mix of histortical and Communist-era and modern. The city's elegant architecture and the sophistication of its elite earned the nickname Paris of the East (they even have the tower!). Although many of the building and districts in the historic centre were damaged by earthquakes and Nicolae Ceausescu's program of systematization have survived till today. Its definitely a different city compared to the rest of the capital cities I have been before.

This is the biggest concentration campu built by Nazi during the World War II. This undeniably the highlight of our trip as this is my first time visiting such a camp. Aushwitz is situated outside Krakow and it took us an hour and half on a bus journey there. There is about one million men, women and children of many nations (mainly Jews) perished here between June 1941 and January 1945. The whole complex that we visited were either murdered (gas chamber etc), starved or worked to death. This is definitely very different to the places that I have visited before. It will made you think and look at life at a different perspective.

Krakow, Poland
This is our trip to Eastern Europe which covers Poland and Romania. Krakow is the second biggest city in Poland. This medieval city is known as cultural capital of Poland with a strong sense of identity. The medieval market square, Cloth Hall, Wawel Castle are the main attractions. We even managed to go for visit to Aushwitz-Birkenau concentration camp (which i will do a separate page) as this is the highlight of our trip. The other main attraction nearby to Krakow is the Salt mine (which is Unesco heritage site). Joining us (me and Mijoe) for this trip is Eli (my ACCA classmate back home). She will also be joining our LA trip in Oct. Here's to our first trip together. Voila!

Mum and dad is finally here!!! They're supposed to come last Raya to visit but had to postpone cos grandma's ill. At last, they arrived in Manchester and was quite worried cos they're not a frequent traveller. Of course mum's luggage is full of food for me, the only child who's living on her own in a country which is so different than back home. Luckily Easter holidays was around and managed to brought them to London, Oxford, Stoke-on-Trent for Royal Doulton and Birmingham. The wather was pretty cold for them but at least they managed to get a lil taste of my so called English life. Cheers!!

York- a trip to meet up an old friend
The weekend trip in York to visit this famous historic walled city in North Yorkshire. I went there to meet up with Sham, my old friend from SRK Marian Convent, Ipoh. This is an overdue appointment that i had put on hold due to the other commitments since I moved over to Manchester. Finally managed to meet up! We chat about the good old times and catching up on the 15 years life since we left primary school. How times had gone by and deep down inside we are still the same person. Its definitely good to meet up with people from the past...reminds me where I came from, the path that I have chosen to be where I am today. Thanks Shamila for the lovely weekend!
